Laying optical fibers in existing tubes is decidedly more economical, and so, it is possible to garner more space by removing out-of-date cables.
The ARMA frees already existing tubes of the cables flagged as out-of-date or not functioning; it is equipped with an hydraulic piston that gives the first tug to the cable, then two drums powered by two independent hydraulic engines rewind the cables and prepare the skeins for disposal.
